Fragrance Notes
The first impression, and usually the lightest part of the fragrance. These notes evaporate first, which is how a fragrance is built to open.
As well as the top notes fading, your nose adapts to a constant scent and stops registering it, while people nearby still smell it. Smell your wrist after leaving the room, or ask someone close.
The main body of the scent, emerging as the top notes fade. It shapes how the fragrance smells once it settles on skin.

Heavier molecules that evaporate slowly, like woods, musk, amber and oud. They are there from the start, and they are what remains once the rest has faded.

TL;DR
- Peppery citrus opening, ambery cedar-labdanum base
- Best for: daily wear, cooler weather
Salvage opens with Calabrian bergamot and pepper, sharp and warm at once. A wide middle of Sichuan pepper, lavender, pink pepper, vetiver, patchouli, geranium and elemi builds a green, spiced heart, before ambroxan, cedar and labdanum settle into a clean, ambery-woody base.
What Does Salvage Smell Like?
The opening pairs Calabrian bergamot with pepper, giving a citrus start that's sharper and spicier than a typical bergamot top, since the pepper is present from the very first moment rather than arriving later. The middle is unusually wide: Sichuan pepper and pink pepper add two different kinds of spice-heat, lavender brings an herbal, slightly soapy clarity, vetiver and patchouli both add earthy, green depth, geranium contributes a rosy-green edge, and elemi layers in a resinous, faintly citrus-tinged sharpness. Together these notes create a dense, green-spiced heart rather than a simple floral or spicy one. The base pulls the composition back toward something cleaner: ambroxan gives a smooth, almost skin-like amber-musk quality, cedar adds dry, structured wood, and labdanum brings a soft, slightly leathery amber warmth. The scent shape moves from sharp and peppery, through a dense green-spiced core, into a clean, ambery-woody finish. What stands out about the middle is how many different textures of pepper and green sit alongside each other at once — Sichuan pepper's tingling heat, pink pepper's softer fruitiness, vetiver's dry earthiness and geranium's rosy green all read distinctly rather than blending into a single spice note, which is unusual for a heart this wide. Elemi's resinous citrus edge is what ties that busy middle back to the bergamot opening, keeping the whole first two-thirds of the fragrance feeling connected rather than segmented. Lavender is doing quieter work here too, sitting just under the pepper notes and giving the middle a slightly soapy clarity that stops seven materials from turning muddy on skin.
How Does It Develop Through the Day?
Calabrian bergamot and pepper lead immediately, giving a sharp, warm-citrus opening. As that settles, the wide middle comes forward — Sichuan pepper, lavender, pink pepper, vetiver, patchouli, geranium and elemi all layer in together, and the fragrance thickens into a dense, green, spiced stretch that reads more complex than the top suggested. Later, the composition narrows again as ambroxan, cedar and labdanum take over, smoothing the spice and green notes into a cleaner, ambery-woody finish that sits close to the skin. The arc runs from sharp, through dense and green, into calm and ambery — a fragrance that gets simpler, not more complicated, as it wears down. The middle stretch is the longest and busiest part of the wear, since seven notes are working at once there, while the opening and closing stages are each comparatively simple and quick to read. By the final hours, only ambroxan's smooth amber-musk and cedar's dry wood remain clearly present, with labdanum's leathery warmth underneath holding the finish together. Compared to the density of the middle stage, the close is deliberately understated, a three-note resolution after a seven-note peak, which gives the whole wear a clear beginning, a clear high point and a clear, calmer ending.
Is It for Men or Women?
Marketed toward men, and the note profile — peppery citrus, a green-spiced heart, an ambroxan-cedar-labdanum base — sits comfortably within that framing with no data to suggest otherwise.
Who It's For
Salvage suits anyone who wants a peppery citrus that doesn't stay simple for long. The wide, green-spiced middle of pepper, lavender, vetiver, patchouli, geranium and elemi gives it real depth before it settles into a clean ambroxan-cedar-labdanum base. A solid daily option for cooler weather, where the spice and amber have room to sit comfortably rather than overwhelm.
